The official John Carmack source for all this is the OC6 discussion about upgrading Quest from 72Hz to 90Hz for Oculus Link remote rendering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMIDaomx0GA&t=1h4m02s

By all accounts Oculus Quest is selling like hotcakes. If the sales exceed Oculus' estimates then they can easily put enough money into FCC re-certification because it will be amortized across of very large number of units. Oculus continually making every headset they make the best it can be (even after well after purchase) helps grow trust in the brand making people more likely to say "just buy Oculus" when recommending VR.

One thing that would help is to spread the word about Oculus Link (and help your friends and family get setup -- the USB2.0 cable that comes with the Quest is now supported!). We need Oculus usage statistics to show there is a market for the 90Hz change. If they do boost the display refresh rate, potentially we might need USB3.0/USB3.1 cables to handle the hugely increased bandwidth requirements without compression issues (see https://twitter.com/id_aa_carmack/status/1198350474526760961?lang=en).

Also spread the word of this UserVoice suggestion to all the Oculus Link users you know (online and offline)! Vote this suggestion all the way up to the top!

MDevellis, I believe the FCC certification sets the clock frequencies which the Quest operates at, which determines the electromagnetic interference. Oculus was short sighted and did not certify the display refresh rate up to 90Hz. My understanding is that you are not allowed to change the electromagnetic interference profile without getting it re-certified by the FCC, which costs a lot. The best John Carmack source is the OC6 discussion about upgrading Quest from 72Hz to 90Hz for Oculus Link remote rendering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMIDaomx0GA&t=1h4m02s

    I think it's a really good idea.

Google translate in case your browser doesn't automatically do it:

Very good glasses with absolutely inadequate software !!

I have two Oculus Quest, but so far I am very disappointed. Not the technique of the glasses, that's great, but the software is horrible for me:

    - First of all, I do not understand why many apps are only available in English. You want to sell in Germany, why not German texts and language? My english is inadequate, so much remains closed to me.

    - I can not do anything with killer games, but mostly see such software in the app store of Oculus. I read sophisticated software about museums, travel, theater (Cirque du Soleil, for example), but none of this is available for the quest.

    - I have e.g. Moss downloaded and Shadow Point. Both are very well done, but what bothers me: You can not skip a level. If I have tried a level ten times and fail each time, then I have no more ****, and no time for it. I would like to continue with the next level, but I can not reach it. Too bad, because these games - which are not about violence - I like it very much.

    - I downloaded Racket Fury, but the game unfortunately has some flaws. Example: If I have reached a level, then the new opponent for me may be. too weak and I reach the next. Only then is this opponent so strong that I have absolutely no chance. To play permanently with an equal player, I did not succeed. So I completely renounce this software.

    - I'm an absolute VR fan and would also spend some money on it, but I'm looking for sophisticated content and not this unspeakable Ballerei !!! I sincerely hope that changes soon, otherwise I will sell my glasses. What I think would be a great pity!
