experimental couch feature should be adapted for this, objects like beds that protrude into game space should be marked similarly to couch so that space above them could be used by controllers but guardian would light up when you try to move over it or try to pick something up near it
existing experimental couch feature triggers passthrough mode and requests confirmation when moving closer to couch which makes it impossible to use space over couch when playing in main area

yes, I imagine it could be a small device with a similar camera that quest uses for tracking that could be placed in front of play area and it would help in tracking hand when they're close to headset or help with full body tracking in the future.
it could also have the same screw hole that mobile phone tripods use
