Remove Mandatory Facebook Login!
Remove Mandatory Facebook login in order to accept friend requests and use the Oculus app. I have never had Facebook nor do i want it. I just want to play vr. I don’t want to have to have facebook to enjoy my 500$ Virtual Reality Headset with my friends.
Such a horrible idea and bad business move. You want your customers to be migrating to the competition, or are you just giving up on the rift? Whoever approved this and thought it was a good idea needs to be replaced asap! And yes, i'll be using steam to purchase my new VR content!

A family friend of mine recently bought a Quest after I gave them a demo of mine. They have intentionally stayed off facebook for many many years and because of this restriction, we cannot enjoy social experiences with our headsets. Doesn't this go against Oculus' goals?!
If you continue restricting users like this, they will jump to the next available competitor as soon as they can. It will be your loss.
Oculus is a Facebook company. Do people really think they will remove it????
Since Covid-19 some of my friends have finally made the plunge into buying VR devices. Me and another friend who has had the Quest for a while have been making plans to do movie nights, games, ect, with everyone.
Today I tried to add one of my other friends to Oculus and was met with "Add Oculus Friends". Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to do... "Log in with Facebook so you can use social features on Oculus." What? Since when was this implemented. I don't recall ever having to do that. I don't even have a Facebook account, haven't for years. It literally served me no purpose but brought stress into my life, so I removed it before it got to be too much. But now I'm being told that my only options are to make another account and return back to square one. Ditch the Oculus device and move over to something like the Vive or Index over on Steam. Or just forgo VR as a whole and not hang out with my friends at all.
On one hand, moving over to the Index would be a huge upgrade, but that price is a hard pill to swallow. However, if that's the price I have to pay to remain anonymous online while enjoying VR games and play with me friends, I guess I don't have much of a choice.
We had the equivalent of a Playstation account, it's our Oculus account and we could use it to add friends, party chat, joining games, basically everything a standard online service would do. The difference of using a Facebook login is that it's forcing users to tie directly into the largest social media platform that has a history of privacy related data issues with their personal information just to use their hardware's features that were previously working on their own. This was a silent update which did not give the users the option, the back of the Quest box states that all you need is an Oculus account which isn't exactly giving the users a sense of transparency and trust.

Wow so many votes on a dumb idea!
If that's a priority for the users....is just dumb,i checked almost all your profiles and this was the only thing you voted !
That's not an improvement and if you buy ps you need a playstation account, you should be aware of that, every platform is a business so it makes sense to create a vr platform to drag people to your main platform!
If you are here at least make this time valuable and go vote some ideas that will IMPROVE THE OCULUS QUEST PLATFORM

FB is the END of the sane world! I won't own another Oculus unless this sick practice is gone forever.

When I bought the Oculus Quest, I could add friends without having to be signed in to a Facebook account. Removing that functionality is not only bad style. Deliberately crippling a product and removing existing functionality after users have purchased it is legally at least questionable. Is anyone on this?
Not being able to make friends inside a device that costs several hundred dollars is quite cruel.
People have independent social circles and that should be allowed.
FB usage could be encouraged rather than forced.
Before the update, we had friends and voice chat. That's, minimally, a core requirement for being social. I've stopped recommending the Quest to others because this new requirement is a stupid, community-crippling change.
The text messaging and calendar events are fine optional extras for those who do want to opt-in to a Facebook-centric experience. If the change was as advertised... if it was actually a value-added proposition to log into Facebook, rather than a feature lock-out, it would have been fine.
If you think you're using the logic that "a Facebook account is free" to justify this change, then you're ignoring the social cost. VR has an ample supply of hurdles, especially for newcomers. Stapling a pervasive social network to that experience is practically a non-starter.

I haven't seen my close family for 5 months thx to covid19, and they do not want anything to do with FB. That's a dead end.
Facebook sucks my attention in exchange for abusing my privacy. If you force me to use it to enjoy my oculus quest I'll just make fake accounts with ******** information. You'll just waste my time and I'll just be a dead account with no data on your servers. Spare us both this pointlessness.
This is horrible, why I can't simply play games with my friends without jumping hoops or some facebook bs.

Remove that Facebook mandatory login immediately. Is this not a case for a court?
The most frustrating thing about this is that oculus made the switch after selling the hardware. Wouldn’t have bought the headset if I knew this was a requirement. Just criminal from Facebook and oculus

Get rid of the facebook fascism now! I want to be able to play multiplayer games with my wife without joining facebook! WTF!!!

It was painful enough buying into Oculus in the first place (supporting Facebook), but to them MANDATE for me to have an account on Facebook to use Oculus is just criminal!
I may have to return this now. This is why monopolies should never exist, we need more competition. Come on HTC/Pimax, your turn!
yeah this facebook login is a serious annoyance

I can't seriously recommend this product any more with the original social features now locked behind forced facebook integration. Every other facebook child company allows login with facebook *OR* not, Oculus should be no different.
I bloody hate it. Just stop it, you ********. Let me friend people without nonsense.
