Virtual Desktop with steam VR support !
Remove the ban for Virtual Desktops steam VR WiFi support ! This feature is the best feature since the launch of the Quest and WE WANT IT !
Thank you for this submission. As mentioned by Jason Rubin on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Jason_Rubin/status/1139645545713041408) , we asked to have the update containing this feature rolled back. We accept experiences vary, but in our testing we found that this feature compromised comfort, safety, and quality to different levels for various people. Our developer strategy team will continue to evaluate all apps and features to ensure the best possible user experience for all.

I share a lot of the same thoughts as others who have commented before me. My thoughts are if you cannot or will not provide certain content then allow people to use your hardware to enjoy the content in other forms. I do not know if you understand that people will always find a way to get what they want but they become loyal to you if you let them have the freedom to choose within your system. I would and will purchase content designed for the quest once it is available but until then I would like to use the wireless hardware to stream things I have already purchased. I will gladly purchase the content again from the quest store because I would rather have something specifically designed to work with my hardware due to proper tracking and lagging issues. I think you should allow the easy window into extra content because people will be happy and happy people are more loyal customers.

Oh my God, I'm going to cancel my Oculus Quest order right now. Since I'm starting to worry that Oculus and Facebook would take any other action to close all doors to streaming PC Games to Oculust Quest. Once they close developer mode, then we can cannot side-load any apps that can streaming games from PC, right? Therefore, I'm done with Oculus (After Rift S disappointed me, and now they stripped down StreamVR for Quest). Heading to PO HP Vibre or Valve Index in the future!

Oculus allows sideloading of this experimental feature. Recent communication clarified the reason for removal and alternate installation method.

It is impossible to accept the lack of seriousness and the miss-respect to us, the customers blocking a portion of a product we have buyed and payed like the Virtual Desktopo COMPLETE, including the STEAM app

I was thinking about buying a Oculus Quest only thanks to the possibility to stream VR from my PC. If don't allow for it makes no sense for me to buy it. Strongly suggest you to get it back as it'll open a lot of potential sales. You should make this as a main feature and not take it out! Sincerely don't understand what you have in mind.

I was looking for a wireless option to VR where I can use google earth. When I saw that steam VRwas supported, I was already convinced. For what I read so far, there is no transparency about the reasons behind this ban. So I will wait more before buying until Oculus shows it's values.

Vendor lock-in has been the #1 con preventing me from jumping on the Quest. I'm currently waiting in line for my Index reservation, but I haven't entirely decided if I want to go through with it or not yet. With the long wait list, lots of people are in the same boat as me. I'm promising in good faith that if you reverse this decision I will buy the Quest instead. Consumers, especially of technology, are very conscious of these competitive business strategies now, and decisions like the takedown of SteamVR support in Virtual Desktop speak very loudly for your company.

That’s a **** move. Why would you even consider shutting down steam vr support and take away months of this devs hard work? Do you see it as some competition? I just don’t understand why Oculus would do such a ludicrous act against Quest users. I currently have a quest and I was looking forward to playing steam Vr games as there aren’t many games on the oculus store currently that I’m interested in but there’s a whole new world in Steam VR that has been blocked because oculus doesn’t care about the users, they only care about money. I’m not surprised. Shame on you for taking 5+ years of development away from the unsuspecting dev and months of configurations and fine tuning to ensure the public will enjoy his game. Honestly disgusting.
EDIT: As you can see, because of this, Oculus is losing buyers. I’ve finished pretty much every game I have purchased and now all I can do is play through the same missions which gets repetitive or just sit it down and wait a week for the next few games that I probably won’t play because they’re all these 3D drawing games that aren’t appealing (to me) at all to role in.

Where is the problem to sideload ? Atm vd runs ******, even sitting games like vtol gives a bad experience. Maybe it will grow in the Future, but atm its not good for pcvr. Dont get me wrong, vd is very polished and the 2d part works Excellenz, but the steamvr part isnt. oculus just want to prevent bad experiences for first time users, thats in ur interest too. If you wanna use pcvr with vd, just buy it and sideload or just use alvr, its just better atm. If this is the reason u wanna buy a quest.. dont.

This is honestly a nice feature. It needs to stay. People who don't have nice computers still need a way to play amazing VR games.

I was already disappointed with the release of the Rift S. Coming from the CV1 the S is a down grade, so I had to pre-order the Index. Still wanting to support Oculus I purchased the quest and had planned on getting one for my daughter. But taking away the best thing about it and making it more or less useless to me takes the cake. I'll be returning it and definitely not buying a second one. I'm done with Oculus.

C'mon oculus/fb, don't be stupid enough to ruin one of your biggest selling points.

I was considering purchasing Quest as the current Rift CV1 owner but after this Oculus' move - I'm really glad I didn't. Unless Oculus reconsiders - it will push many potential Oculus customers into VALVE ecosystem (both hardware -Index and software - SteamVR)

I was on the fence about buying a Quest. I really want a mobile successor to my Gear VR and this ticks all of the boxes for this for me. This type of decision makes me much less likely to follow through on that impulse. For now, I'm going to wait and see and just keep using the Gear VR and my Vive.

Unfortunately, this issue boils down to a monetary one. By blocking content which would allow users to stream from their Steam VR libraries Oculus can secure sales from their VR app store. To address this concern as a quest user, I would argue that having Steam VR accessible for streaming would not cause any significant loss of sales from the app store since users of this feature will need to be near a high performance VR capable PC with 5 GHz wifi to use this service. The mobility of the quest design is currently unparalleled and users will still be motivated to have a robust game library available for travel with or without Steam VR support. Also, regardless of whether Oculus endorses the feature of streaming from PC or not the Modding community has already been hard at work creating side loaded apps which can support such a feature. By blocking this feature from production Oculus is only damaging its own reputation for very little gain.

Why not just have a curated filter and an indie filter. Give us users the option to choose. Don't force feed us.
