We should have a method of receiving messages into the headset. I think this could be done using the Oculus app itself. Let users send each other messages. I could create an oculus account for my wife, and she could send me an oculus message directly into the headset while I’m immersed in the virtual world...in case i need to help with the real world. And of course i should be able to turn this off if i want.
Thanks to everyone who voted for this idea! As part of a recent software update, we added the ability to message friends through chats for users who login with Facebook. You can learn more about this and other new social features by checking out the following blog post: https://www.oculus.com/blog/introducing-new-features-from-facebook-to-help-people-connect-in-vr-and-an-update-to-our-privacy-policy/

Now hear me out, life gets busy and we don't always get to be on the quest at the same time with friends and if you only have contact with someone through the quest wouldn't it be nice to still have the ability to chat with them when you can't catch eachother online? Improving the communication feature between users on and off the quest (through the app) would be a huge improvement in my opinion.

I would further this by saying could we get some phone notifications through to us? I love the immersion of VR but sometimes I need to know when people are trying to get ahold of me.

scheduling get togethers is also highly desired - i.e. the text could say "hey wanna get together for a movie at 7pm tonight on bigscreen?" and then oculus home would pop in and say - "will you be there"? and offer two options (y/n) and a third (record a response!) - that last one you could say whatever you want in addition to the y/n.

Add the ability to send a simple text message to someone in your friends list. It would be nice to message someone to see if they want to play a game
