Charging while shutdown keeps turning on quest
For people new to the quest, you may or may not have noticed this incredibly annoying issue yet.
Upon release of the oculus go headset, there was an issue whereby any power received by the headset while it was in a full shutdown state would automatically turn the headset back on again.
This caused issues where the headset was left on charge then packed away without thought, only to find it was out of battery next time it was used.
This was later fixed by an update for the oculus go, the same issue is unfortunately present on the quest
However, on quest if you were to shutdown, cover lenses then put on charge, you'll find that not only is the headset turned itself on again but the screen has been on all that time unattended, headset hot and if volume is loud enough, making noise where it's in the confirm guardian state.
There is no way to charge while shutdown at the moment, meaning if you were unlucky enough to have the lens cover off and charging while shutdown and not notice that it has booted itself up again by physically looking in the lenses, you'll actually find that next time you use it, it won't be 100% battery or worse still, completely drained.
We need people to shout about this so they can push a fix asap, it's been done for the oculus go but needed people to shout about it, let's make it happen for the oculus quest!
Pulling your headset out to demo to friends only to find its got very little battery life left (despite being on charge for hours before) isn't fun!
Thanks for sharing and voting for this feedback. We believe that the root cause of this issue was identified and resolved within the v7 software update that rolled out in July. The headset should no longer power on upon being plugged in. As a result, we are marking this idea as complete. If you continue to experience this behavior or run into any other issues, please contact Oculus support. Thank you!
I've never had this problem. When I charge the headset on full shutdown, you can put it on and click the power button to see the current battery level. After plugging it in it shows that screen, then turns back off.
I've found if the volume button is depressed while you plug charger in it wil go straight into the recovery boot menu, this leads me to believe the act of putting a charge into the headset is emulating the power button being depressed.
I've also tried plugging the charger in for a brief moment and can replicate the results, this is concerning as it seems linked to a hardware issue, unless there is a complete overhaul of how the power button engages the current.
@Annoymous, please can you read through my comments below here, its not an issue with covering lenses or batteries in controllers. Absolutely everything has been troubleshooted, here is the issue.

US, same issue. Makes the device practically useless.
This is insane! My quest is constantly out of battery and every time I want to show people I can’t because it runs out in 5 minutes. The controllers I’m having to change batteries like candy! Fix this issue oculus!

Still not fixed. Just ran into this yesterday. Wow that's awful.
Finally had a follow up response from support,
''Thank you for reaching out to us about this. The behavior you're experiencing should be resolved in a future software update so please ensure you have auto updates turned on.''
Let hope this is soon, hopefully I'm present when the screen turns itself on again next time it pushes an update... Be nice to have some changelogs so I'm not getting my hopes up every update
LATEST FIRMWARE HAS STILL NOT FIXED THIS.
I really hope that this is being taken seriously, as ironically my headset overheated as it was on charge in standby, the ONLY WAY I CAN CHARGE WITH SCREEN OFF- or so I thought.
AUTOWAKE IS TURNED OFF so that it wont activate while in standby, the new issue being when a firmware update is pushed and installed while its in standby, it activates the screen for whatever stupid reason, and because the lens cover was installed ( as why would my screen come on with autowake disabled) THE SCREEN STAYED ON.
so currently I risk screen burn in by both leaving it unattended charging in both standby mode and fully turned off, hardly a convenient grab and go device when you have to babysit it while it charges!!!!
if this turns out to be hardware issues, then how do we all stand given that its taking so long to hear anything about a firmware fix that may never happen, pushing us over the accepted return period?????
Hi all. My 64gb quest unit was doing it from time to time, but usually when that happen turning it off one or two times was enought for preventing it to turning on again while charging. But since the last recent update (256550.6810.0) it's happening ALWAYS, everytime I turn it completely off while charging or start charging with it completely off it will turn on in about 3mins, and no matter if I turn it off again, in another 3mins it will turn on again, last night I turned it off like 5-6 times while charging and it keeped turning on every 3mins or so, and it was just updated, si finally I gave up and waited for it to be completely charged before turning it off again, at least is not turning on if not charging.
What we can say from this is that all this cases must be luckily firmware issue, so let's hope oculus check into this, cause this can run into screen damage if you left your lens cover on while charging, since it will wake on the screen no matter you have auto wake on or off, and this will display same image in screen until you notice it, what translates in possible screen image burn.
OCULUS PLEASE FIX THIS!
I'll add my name to the list.
I have a 128gb model, one week new. Same symptoms. I completely power down the unit, insert the cardboard lens cover, and plug in the charging cable. Initially, the orange charging light comes on, but then the unit powers on.
I like others, I had packed it away to take with me to show off to others, only to remove the lid from the box to hear sound coming from the speakers and find the battery below 50%. Plus the unit being fairly warm to the touch. I have no idea how long it had been on like this in the box with no ventilation, but it had been in there for at least 6 hours.
I no longer charge it with the lens cover on. After I remove it from the charger, I power it down completely, and then insert the lens cover. I double check it a few minutes later to make sure that it hasn't turned on, then I pack it away.
Having the same problem, please fix this Oculus
Also experiencing this problem, have reached out to Oculus for a remedy. The power led has been blinking amber/green repeatedly for me, too.

I think it's okay as an Update-Feature but it should turn itself completely off and not enter Restmode after searching for updates has ended. Restmode makes no sense at all in this case! The internet is full of people complaining about this issue. They all should gather here.
Oculus Auestt, 64GB, bought via amazon.de
i have this problem with my quest too. some how its empty after all night charging, it charges for a waile when i turn it of, but later when i want to use it again its not charged.
My workaround is to charge mine without a lens cover. It turns only on when the black paper cover is inside. At least for my quest.

Just got my 4th Quest. This one does not turn on when charging. YAY.
So for me that's 3 out of 4 Quest's that don't turn on while charging. This one seems ok so far. Still need to run down the list of common problems, but so far I'm willing to deal with the dirty camera lenses in passthrough as long as they don't affect tracking.

How could they release the Oculus Quest with such a big issue? And there is no fix yet? First i thought the problem is the lenscover that activates the quest... But now i tested, without lenscover it turns itself on! no red/green light...nothing is working anymore....and besides of that. that means you can't use the quest while charging? no long movienights? 2-3 hours and thats it? why cant you use the quest while charging? please update the issues as fast as possible. i cannot charge that thing anymore....its dead.

Just got my replacement Quest, first one had dead pixels and bad mura but didn't show this behaviour you describe, the replacement shows the annoying turn on thing when charging.

I have been having the same problem with my 64gb Quest. Took it to my family's house on Father's Day only to see that it was at 55% battery life, and I left the charging cable at home.
I feel there are several, intermittent problems I run into with the headset and it really drives home the idea that we just need a good, solid firmware update.
Despite the issues and frustrations I run into with the Quest I am still enjoying it like I was on day one and I'm looking forward to seeing it live up to it's full potential.
