3DOF mode for using the Quest in the dark
Currently you can't use Quest in the dark at all. Technically 3DOF tracking should work (just like the Go), so people can watch videos even in a dark environment.
Just add a notification like "Tracking error. Would you like to use Quest in 3DOF mode?"
Thanks for voting for this idea! This feature has been added as part of the v9 software update that began rolling out earlier this week. You can find this option as a toggle called “Tracking” under the Settings > Device menu. It will also be offered as an option when the headset detects that your headset is in a playspace without sufficient light for tracking. See you in VR!

Close but not quite right. Thanks for finally implementing this much needed feature however one issue i noticed is that recentering your view does not reset yhe controller like it does on Oculus Go. This means there is no way to reset the controller drift. This really is a huge problem and its very simple to fix.
Reset of view should also reset controller rotation.

Its out now in 9.0. you can enable it in settings and in tracking errors.
@James Scott Wilkerson you want to bring an IR illuminator onto a plane?
@Charnelle they implemented it already, it exists. But they took it down a day after they released it assumedly too many bugs. We're all just waiting for them to bring it back.
@Damien Smith Jason Rubin should read Carmack's tweets from months ago. Also, he should know they already released it once but pulled it. It'd be Rubin's fault he's not paying attention to the internet.
This SHOULD be the #1 thing they're working on instead of pouring resources into all these other new things- all the people who upgraded from Go, this is the only thing we lost: 3dof.

I like to use my quest to watch TV privately in bed. Unfortunately I cant turn the lights off for my wife while doing this because head tracking fails and the quest won't run.
Have a mode where I can use my quest in in the dark. It shouldt just disable head tracking and keeps the content centered in front of my eyes.
@James Scott Wilkerson no, then you'd have to get a physical upgrade, and it'd be too over complicated.
I really thought they would have implemented this feature at OC6

I sold my Oculus Go so I could buy Quest, but I was really sad to discover that I can no longer watch Netflix or surf YouTube in bed like I used too.

Jason Rubin claimed he'd never heard of this request during a Projections interview at OC6. I guess it is important like Carmack said to vote these things up. Geez!
Was thinking this would be great on overnight flights.

Wouldn't an IR illuminator be preferred? What am I missing here?
Watching Your Favorites on Quest Now Easier than Ever
Looks like we're getting this 😊
please anyone who visits, upvote this- it only takes a second. at least it can be assumed they’re working on it as they released it for a day then pulled it off to fix something. until then my activity on the quest has halted completely and I check in every now and then to see if it’s here yet. I’m just not interested in using this until the device is “whole”.

Damn. This is such a let down. I bought the GO as my first ever VR, took it back to get the quest and I can’t even use it for what I originally bought the go for. laying in bed watching movies next to my wife without disturbing her schedule was amazing. Please fix this soon
According to Oculus Support in reddit they briefly added the feature but have since removed it.

This is in the current firmware release and done well. Turn lights off - go into 3Dof. Turn lights back on - go back to 6 Dof. Much thanks. If you're not on the current firmware version (7 something?) then leave it turned on, plugged in, and connected to internet overnight and it should update.
was really expecting this would roll out with the last major update- thanks for fixing the guardian off bug in developer mode, at the very least it's possible to use it in the dark. but of course guardian off has its own bugs. can't wait for an official 3dof mode: just have a default floor location and a default controller position like the Go!
You idiots made it so I can’t watch Netflix in bed or any other media for that matter because the headset can’t track at night... I realize facebook wants to spy on me and can’t when there’s no light but that’s not why I purchased the quest, you people missed it by a mile!
Taking a flight next week and regrettably will be leaving the Quest at home in favor of the Oculus Go.
I use VR to calm nerves when flying and I find the Quest "tracking lost" warning incredibly disrupting and unacceptable when all I want to do is watch Netflix.
Developer mode, asking the pilot to illuminate the cabin lights, or bringing an array of infrared flashlights isn't the solution so I'm eagerly awaiting the 3DoF mode.

Would love to watch movies in bed with the Quest using headphones without needing to have lights on.
