Add option to remove red dot when casting to phone/other device
One of the main use cases for the casting feature is to have someone unfamiliar with the Quest using it and someone else watching what they are doing and helping them. However, turning on casting currently adds an annoying red dot that detracts from the experience of the person using the headset. Please add an option to remove it.

As always, thanks to everyone who voted for this idea! I’m pleased to announce that a new option to disable the red dot indicator has been added with the v17 Quest software update! Simply head to the Settings > Device menu and look for the “Video Capture Indicator” feature. Toggling this off will make it so the red dot no longer appears within the headset when casting, recording, or livestreaming. For more details on the v17 update, check out our full release notes here: https://support.oculus.com/release-notes/

I get that it has uses for reminding you that your are still casting or streaming but it is positioned in a highly distracting area. I get blind to it in intense games but then seeing it does break immersion sometime. Is there perhaps another method that could be easily implemented to remind you casting is on but that won't interfere with your view?
My personal suggestion would be something like a glowing red box around your menu so when you do leave a game or app that you were streaming you have a subtle reminder you are live.

I'm with everyone else regarding finding a new way to show that the user is casting; the way that the red dot is implemented currently really takes away from the experience. My roommate is playing Beat Saber while I type this and is constantly distracted by it.
Also, the depth that the dot occupies doesn't match the depth of menus it should be 'in front of'. This makes some of my friends who are new to VR mildly uncomfortable.
I like the idea but the implementation should change. Maybe something attached to the virtual controller?

I’d like to add another voice of dissent. Please never do this. I never want my device to be able to cast without this always visible indicator.

There’s already an established suggestion for this https://oculus.uservoice.com/forums/921937-oculus-quest/suggestions/37706377-add-option-to-remove-red-dot-when-casting-to-phone

Obviously there should be an option to turn it off. When turned off, pop a warning that must be confirmed to tell the user that recording or streaming is in progress. Once confirmed, drop the warning. This isn't rocket science.

Thanks for a great headset, but:
1. When will you improve casting for Oculus Quest? It sucks really bad now, playing VR with friends with them watching on the phone isnt exactly fun for them. To a tv is impossible with ”Standard” setting being max. All my friends have 65” TV, I have an 86”...it lags badly and the pixels are big...Im not going to buy a 32” just so friends can see what goes on in the headset.
This should be developer focus, playing with others is a big deal, right now everyone not playing is bored, watching on a 5” telephone screen just doesnt work.
2. I know when im casting, I TURNED IT ON!! Why would I need a red dot to throw me out of the immersion? Why? There is no point. Whatever your idea with this is, at least give us an option to turn it OFF
Thanks

Totally agree. There should be an option to actively remove the red dot. The default setting should be that the red dot appears, but users should have the choice to remove the red dot if they wish.

Our family bought the Quest thinking we could all enjoy it together. The red dot makes that impossible and it's become a one-person form of entertainment.
Teaching new users is infuriating - all they do is complain about the red dot. It needs to go.

A quick warning in direct FOV that disappears would suffice

At least move it more the the side of the field of view. Absolutely infuriating playing beatsaber with a swinging dot in the field of view. How did this pass QA?! Do the oculus devs not actually use the device?!
