Enable dynamic contrast adjustment on Quest 2 to enable better blacks in dark scenes.
I've been having a great time on my Quest 2, but have been avoiding darker games due to the grey fog and washed out scenes.
Could you implement an automatic backlight adjustment that would kick in for any dark scene to keep the black levels in check? Since the LCD panel characteristics are known, you could also do automatic color and contrast grading to keep the colors accurate as the backlight is dimed. Many TVs already do exactly this kind of dynamic backlight and contrast adjustment. Could also open an API for developers to adjust the backlight so that they could set bright scenes to have full backlight and dark scenes to have low backlight.

This is the best way of doing it. It's also important, that the LED backlight needs a much lower minimum brightness, as in 20% of current minimum brightness, if possible.
If developers can fully leverage the hardware capabilities, they can optimize their scenes and assets to look best at a specific backlight brightness and switch to it, to get the best visuals in difficult scenes.

Definitely needed, an improvement for milky blacks. Automatic, as well as manual backlight/contrast/brightness adjustments.

Including brightness settings for now would be great!

A better LCD panel with backlit zones, or OLED panel would be best. Or upcoming microLED technology.

After using Oculus Quest 1 and other headsets with OLED panel, the lack of contrast in dark scenes is very noticeable in the Quest 2, blacks practically do not exist and details are lost in dark scenes. Something should be done.

Life's not black and white, it's shades of gray...

Agreed. Something needs to be done with these black levels.
Some games are very dark and all I can see is grey. It breaks immersion.
