I would love to see an official Oculus Cinema app to let users comfortably watch local/streamed media in a virtual theater in VR.
There are already a few ways to watch movies/internet videos on Oculus platforms, but none of them have the full features that a system-level virtual theatre app could have. I'm talking about a giant virtual cinema with multiple environments where users could have full control of the size/shape of their screen, or reposition it for laying down on their backs, and use it to access local media, or stream from their home network or a cloud drive, or even launch web streaming apps like YouTube and Hulu without having to swap between (often flawed) apps to have comfortable access to all of their media.
We already have a good YouTube VR app, and the Oculus Browser for accessing web based media, but none of it is particularly comfortable or slick. Providers like Hulu and Netflix VR apps suck, and when we try to sideload their mobile SDKs they keep changing their APIs or whatever so that they no longer support Oculus headsets. I want to see Oculus lean hard into the secondary use of their devices which for a lot of us is lying in bed at night with a giant virtual cinema screen strapped to our faces. There's so much more that could be done for home entertainment in VR.
