Limit the number of Oculus Quests one person can purchase to improve distribution until the stock shortages are resolved
In light of the limited stocks and the current global situation where many people are stuck in quarantine, it would be a big gesture of Oculus to assist in helping to get VR into the hands of as many people as possible. This includes individuals stuck in quarantine, educators, researchers, etc.
There are major issues of distribution with a significant number of units being snapped up by resellers and scalpers, resulting in many units stuck in the warehouses of these non-users. As of this writing, there are 5169 listings for "Oculus Quest" + Condition = "New" and 2471 listings for "Oculus Rift S" + Condition ="New" on eBay. These are units that could go to helping someone ease the mental stress that they are being placed in right now. This form of capitalism doesn't help make the situation better for the larger society.
If Oculus is genuinely interested in getting VR into the hands of as many people as possible, it would be a significantly consumer-centric move to regulate the number of units each purchase order or account can buy until the supply chain issues have been resolved.
Maybe it could be limited to 2 of each device (Oculus Quest/Rift S/Go) to facilitate larger families needing two Quests? I'm sure that someone from the sales department could analyse the sales pattern and figure out a way to make an equitable decision.
This might also free up stock to increase the global distribution network. There are many countries that could benefit from an expanded distribution network which I hope and believe your team is considering. This would allow education institutes in those countries which require official support to integrate VR into the education system.
I am not currently an Oculus customer even though I wish I could be. Oculus is not currently shipping to my country so I hope this could change sometime in the near future.
Thank you for your time and support.
