Make cloud saves mandatory to ensure save data is not lost when performing a factory reset
My understanding is that cloud save functionality is available, but most developers choose not to use it.
It should be part of the Oculus approval process for games to ensure data is not lost if the Quest unit requires a factory reset, breaks or is lost/stolen.
This is something that is seen as the norm for other ‘consoles’ so should be the standard if aiming for VR to be mainstream.
Backing up with usb over developer mode is not a good enough solution for the majority as it requires manual backups.

Personally I hate cloud saves. While handy if something goes wrong,(more times than not cloud saves ate my local saves and caused problems) I'd prefer if I had an easier way to access my saves and data so I could do a local backup.
Also at that point developers need to be much more carful with said data, since all of its saved data must now be pushed to "secure" face book servers.
This needs to be mandatory. The ecosystem is broken without it.
As a step along the path, can we at least have the store show us which apps have cloud saves. That would encourage developers to implement it so that they're not shamed by absence, while also assisting consumer choice.
I don't understand how this isn't a default feature on the quest yet. So many online games have progress that isn't tied to an account so when you lose your data it's gone and you have to start over again. Surely it wouldn't take that much to implement? you standardise the save location directory and then force an rsync or something to your servers. Get on it Oculus!

I agree 1000000000% with this request with a small addition. Perhaps the ability to save could (also) be added to the Oculus operating system (as long as it didn't require a lot of storage space). Maybe then, it would not be incumbent on the game developers to add a save capability. Since some games require an internet connection and with Quest 2, you HAVE to have a Facebook account, I can't imagine it would take that much to modify the OS and be able to save your game data to your FB account. All I know is that there are games that I ABSOLUTELY do not have to start over from the beginning if I reset my device or when I get an Oculus Quest 2.

I've had to reset my headset twice now as it takes 7+ minutes to boot up. I've lost all my saves each time. Now I'm buying a quest 2 and will loose my saves again. Cloud saves should be mandatory and tied to my Facebook account. It shouldn't matter what headset I am using if I log in with my account, it should know the progress I've made in that game. Tie the save to the Facebook login so that when my wife or friends login to my headset they have their own saves and don't mess mine up. Facebook can even accumulate data like how much progress a specific person has done in super hot or moss or something. I've lost my saves due to glitches in my headset needing reset. Don't make me loose it again.

Need this feature, but as others have said, not through Facebook.

There is a very clear business reason why Oculus doesn't do it to developers: because Oculus is desperate to attract developers to the Quest platform to keep the Oculus Store filled with apps so they really want to make app development as easy as possible. Requiring this would require developers who are coming over from PC VR or Playstation VR to implement a brand new feature instead of just porting the core game over, which makes porting more difficult.
So while this would be nice for users, they aren't requiring it in order to be nicer to developers.

I would change it, make the user decide if everything is saved local or in the cloud. Due to privacy reasons I would like more settings of what is saved in the cloud and what not.
This kind of functionality is one of the best features of iOS devices Game Center/iCloud, and I imagine other devices. I could drop my phone in the ocean, get a new one, and in a few minutes, it's basically a clone of the one that' sleeping with the fishes. Definitely gives me more confidence in the platform.

Got my vote!
as long as it requires facebook
I agree, cloud saves would be family friendly as well
And please don't make us go through Facebook
Cloud backup without having to log into Facebook.

Only without requiring Facebook though
I have bought so many games that my 64gb is having only 10 gb free storage but cannot uninstall games because would lose game saves!
This problem will be worse in the future and only way to fix it is to make cloud saves mandatory!

Just as long as it doesn't require Facebook.
