Release a large, comprehensive firmware update that addresses a vast number of complaints and concerns.
I'm on here with a main concern in general but as I read the other topics I'm reminded that major flaws that have been present since the Quest launched in May are still yet to be addressed. The Oculus Quest is really an amazing piece of technological engineering. Unfortunately, almost every time I use the Quest there are glaring flaws with various different aspects of the platform that significantly reduce my enjoyment of it and at times have led to multi-week breaks from using the headset in hopes that Oculus would get their act together.
Why?! WHY is there no method of backing up save data for the apps or games that we pay for, sink hours of our time into and enjoy? Yes, there are ways and means to preserve some of the data but often times that is not the case. Being that I have had to restore my headset at least five times, as advised by Oculus Support, that is purely unacceptable. Today I spent more time trying to salvage save data for my games prior to a restore than time spent actually using the headset. It is so frustrating that I have now adopted the stance that I will not be paying for another title through Oculus until a system-wide save system is implemented. It is 2019 and every game console available since 1998 has had some form of removable or cloud based save system baked into the OS. It is mandatory that all titles support it and I see no reason why the Oculus platform can't at least match that. Pardon the long-winded rant but I am livid after losing my progress in my games yet again.
Improve the casting functionality AND remove the stupid red dot that appears when a person is casting. I understand there may be reasons for the existence of the dot but the fact that it is less than two inches from a persons face when they're wearing the headset should have been a major factor in the decision around the red dot. it clearly was not.
Being that Oculus is owned by Facebook I cannot even begin to imagine why and how the social functions of the Quest could possibly be so lacking. It is absurd that a party chat requires players to stay either at the home menu or play the same game in order to chat with one another. Again, this capability has been around for close to ten years now and the "Social Network" should at least offer something comparable. Instead, we cannot even send text messages to other users. Come on!
Also, I realize the Quest is a stand alone device but the option to connect it to a computer for backup and syncing purposes would be convenient. Simple, bare bones Mac support would also be a big help.
I feel that large, far reaching QoL update is much needed within the overall Oculus platform and I know that with some improvements things can be really good.
There are several other issues that nag myself and the community however, it wouldn't be fair to only speak ill of the Quest and not acknowledge just WHY the flaws stick out as much as the do and that is, to some extent, the Quest is deserving of a little slack. (Although the lack of save data backup is ********* and the headset never should have been released without it.) The technical achievements and overall solid performance of the hardware is a testament to the talent and expertise of the Oculus development team. If a roughly two year old snapdragon processor is able to push out the kind of performance the Quest does then I can't wait to see what's in store for future headsets. Just please let me backup my saves before then.
I don't agree that I should file complaint after complaint without trying to be constructive about it too so, thank you for the time you've taken to read this. Feel free to reach out to me with a survey or for any other input I have.
