More social: (optional) video chat while casting
Isolation is a "bug and feature" with VR. Sure, total immersion in the game is cool. But shutting yourself off from your family in the same room - not as cool.
So what if the companion app had an option to turn on the front camera on the phone/tablet (while casting, or even as a standalone feature) - and then a small video chat window would appear in VR?
This would instantly make the Quest more social (and less disorienting, for the purpose of guiding a new VR user in the experience).
No more having to tap the should of the VR player to get their attention. No more needlessly disrupting them, having them take off the headset while deep in a game. And now you, outside VR, could even share what the rest of the family is doing - like switching to the back camera and showing what's happening on TV, or around you if at a party etc.
Sure, until we have face-tracking HMDs that can project our face, the VR players face/eyes are still obscured by the headset. But this is a way that we could mitigate the social negative effect of shutting yourself completely off to the outside world.
