Charging while shutdown keeps turning on quest
For people new to the quest, you may or may not have noticed this incredibly annoying issue yet.
Upon release of the oculus go headset, there was an issue whereby any power received by the headset while it was in a full shutdown state would automatically turn the headset back on again.
This caused issues where the headset was left on charge then packed away without thought, only to find it was out of battery next time it was used.
This was later fixed by an update for the oculus go, the same issue is unfortunately present on the quest
However, on quest if you were to shutdown, cover lenses then put on charge, you'll find that not only is the headset turned itself on again but the screen has been on all that time unattended, headset hot and if volume is loud enough, making noise where it's in the confirm guardian state.
There is no way to charge while shutdown at the moment, meaning if you were unlucky enough to have the lens cover off and charging while shutdown and not notice that it has booted itself up again by physically looking in the lenses, you'll actually find that next time you use it, it won't be 100% battery or worse still, completely drained.
We need people to shout about this so they can push a fix asap, it's been done for the oculus go but needed people to shout about it, let's make it happen for the oculus quest!
Pulling your headset out to demo to friends only to find its got very little battery life left (despite being on charge for hours before) isn't fun!
Thanks for sharing and voting for this feedback. We believe that the root cause of this issue was identified and resolved within the v7 software update that rolled out in July. The headset should no longer power on upon being plugged in. As a result, we are marking this idea as complete. If you continue to experience this behavior or run into any other issues, please contact Oculus support. Thank you!
New firmware update has not fixed the issue, taking batteries out of the controllers before shutdown also does not fix the issue.
turning off bluetooth on phone or closing app ( phone turned off ) does not fix the issue.
autowake and auto app updates turned off does not fix the issue.
not covering the lenses does not fix the issue
waiting any amount of time before charging after shutdown does not fix the issue.
using different cables or power supply does not fix the issue.
nothing a user can do fixes this, i'm sure there are many other people who have this issue but just don't know it yet or do not know about this user voice, we need a firmware fix for this please oculus
I'm in the US and I also have the same issue. I charged to 100%. Packed it up for the night. Next day the battery was completely drained. Never touched it. Very disappointed.

I've been through 3 quests so far. My latest one(3rd, bad) has the issue where it will turn on while charging. As far as I can tell, the prior 2 did not have this issue. I still have the 2nd one (good) so I did some comparisons.
A few times, it made the turn on sound when it turned on. Most times it just silently turned on. Some times it turned on but was making the low harmonic hum sound when you are confirming the guardian, even though the screen was off.
Typical behavior is, I turn the device off, wait some amount of time, plug it in. On both the good and bad devices, the Oculus logo shows for a bit, then the charging indicator shows how much the batteries are currently charged. Then the screen goes off. On the bad unit, the device will turn on completely in some amount of time.
It's turned on almost instantly some times, other times it's taken several minutes to turn on.
I've waited several minutes to plug in, and plugged in instantly after turning off, neither seems to have a change on this behavior in the good or bad units.
I've tried multiple outlets and chargers. All cause the bad unit to turn on, and the good one to not.
Some people swear that this is because of autowake, however I've turned off the auto wake function and I do not put anuything near or in front of the lenses while charging. The headstrap is not hanging down. On the good device, I can rub the sensor, put something in front of it, and it doesnt appear to cause the bad behavior.
I have this issue too.
Power off the Quest. Plug in the charger. Cover the lenses with my microfiber towel. Light indicates it's charging. Within 5 to 10 minutes, the Quest has turned itself back on.
A simple tap on the power button turns it back off and it then charges like normal.
This is all despite me having turned off the "auto wake" feature on the headset.....

Happening to me too. TV and is my second replacement. The other two did not exhibit this. I still have the 2nd one.
Tried multiple resets on the affected one, no change, tried turning off auto wake, no change, tried the same power brick on both, no change.
All US versions. All April 2019 boxes.
What if you take the batteries out of the controllers?

Got mine in Denmark. Same issue. I submitted a support ticket and was told to do a factory reset. Not sure how that would help though. I basically wanted to see if they were aware of the issue and it did not seem like they were. Hopefully this thread picks up traction.
The issue is that IF the lense cover is ON while charging, it will turn on. Even if you have the auto-wake function turned off; putting the lense cover on while charging is what’s turning the headset back on. I doubt this is supposed to be happening. Hopefully oculus will patch this.

I can reliably reproduce this issue with my Quest; I'm in the US. If I leave the Quest plugged in but explicitly turned off the headset will turn on with the screen on after about an hour.
I'd very much like to have this fixed; let me know if you need anything (logs/config files/debugging info) and I'd be happy to help.
I got a german quest and am having the same issue. It is kind of annoying but it charges fine in standby.
But since oculus actually recommends turning the quest off and charging it I really hope this will get fixed soon.
You can avoid that if you disable the auto start in the settings menu.

I'm from the EU and have the exact same problem.

Yeah i have the same thing. Plug t in to charge after shutting it down and it turns itself on. Every time.
Why are we having the same problems as we had a year ago with the go? Did the people working on the os not work on the go? Didn't they communicate with those who did?
Why are we getting another headset with half baked operating system without features the go has. And still no usb otg on the quest either.
After posting to Reddit, the comments where they do not have issues seem to be EU or US.
Could this possibly be a UK issue?
