3DOF mode for using the Quest in the dark
Currently you can't use Quest in the dark at all. Technically 3DOF tracking should work (just like the Go), so people can watch videos even in a dark environment.
Just add a notification like "Tracking error. Would you like to use Quest in 3DOF mode?"
Thanks for voting for this idea! This feature has been added as part of the v9 software update that began rolling out earlier this week. You can find this option as a toggle called “Tracking” under the Settings > Device menu. It will also be offered as an option when the headset detects that your headset is in a playspace without sufficient light for tracking. See you in VR!

Would love to watch movies in bed with the Quest using headphones without needing to have lights on.
I would love this for take-offs and landings for when using the Quest on airplanes

Really don’t like the circle much either in sitting mode, having the guardian pop up all the time is annoying and everyone always complains, the simple sitting experience in much better in the go.

This will hopefully let me use the quest for watching movies on the ship a work. When there's a little movement the headset is completely useless.
Actually its possible to use the quest in dark. Turn off guardian in developer mode and use an xbox controller. But thats a bugy workaround for a necessary feature.

/!\ PS: While it is implemented. You can use the Oculus in the dark with infrared light in the room /!\
When they are well put in the room. You just need 2-6 infrared light with 300ohm resistor and a 9 V batteries
You can also just buy a big infrared light if you don't like to mess around with small led.
You can find some of my tests on the subject here:
Confirmed alrdeady. Thanks Carmack. idkfa
I will return all 65 units back to store on Sunday because i needed unit to work at night so people can watch YouTube. Junk.

Yes Oculus - please add this! I would like to watch 3D movies in bed at night.

Yeah this was very disappointing. I don't need the controllers to work to watch Netflix.
Also, let us use only one controller for media viewing in the dark (or light). If we leave a controller in another room, we get the sitting guardian wall violation/red marks all over the media we're watching. There should be another mode (roomscale, sitting, and media) that is just minimal 3dof tracking with no guardian like on the Go.

3DOF mode would also be useful in bus transit or while someone else is driving !

I'm actually shocked this isn't already in place. Id say this was merely an oversight, but there is a video of an Oculus rep stating that this very feature was already in place.
For it not to be, means it Oculus 'was' aware of this need, and pulled it for some reason.
