Oculus Arcade Needs a Huge Update
It’s my killer app and the first one I show people that want to try VR, but it is so bugged to ****. After selecting Bandai, Midway, or Sega, you can’t back out and find something else. If you try to leave the room, then the app just shuts down and tells you that you have to open it again. The game also freezes the cabinet sometimes and you have to restart the app in order to get it working.
Another problem is that high scores do not save. I keep getting the option to put my scores in, but after the first couple sessions I realized that it was all pointless because NOTHING saves. This is a must and there should be a personal high score, friends list high score and worldwide high score.
There should be an option to have your own personal arcade with your favorite games in it. When you want to switch cabinets, you should be able to turn towards a cabinet and select it. There should also be environments to choose from. Imagine playing Galaga and having 8 bit outer space engulf the room around you. Imagine playing Pac-man and the room around you becomes an endless Pac-man maze. The rooms that we have now are very boring and give off a dystopian vibe, not the 80s arcade excitement.
Add way more arcade games. The selection right now doesn’t bother me that much because I mostly play Galaga, but once I thought about it, I realized we don’t really have a large selection. Where is Galaxian, The Simpsons Arcade, Space Invaders, Outrun, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Tetris? It’s insane that these are nowhere to be found despite DEFINING the 80s arcades.
Give us an option to play multiplayer or at least an option where multiple people can watch you play.
Oculus Arcade has such potential to be the BEST app on the Oculus Go right now, but it NEEDS more love. I can play Galaga for hours, but then I’ll realize my scores won’t save, I can’t go over to any other game without force quitting the entire app and the room around me looks like ****.
Take notes from the retro arcade on the Vive. I want to feel like I’m in that scene from Ready Player One! Let’s also not forget that this app hasn’t been updated once in a year.

I believe I read that players need an Oculus Go game controller. If that is true, isn't there a way you can make the original controller compatible too?

I agree with a lot of the ideas posted here, but I would like to add to them.
The Oculus arcade app in my opinion was a good idea because there's an ever growing market for retro gaming. It just needed more support. One thing would have been to maybe made it a continuous series, offering 15 to 20 titles each from noted companies(i.e. Midway collection, Atari, Sega, Capcom). Such collections existed on Game systems and mobile apps. Another idea would be to use only Arcade titles, cause I'm a fan of the Sega Genesis, but some of those games shouldn't be passed off as Arcade titles. Keep it strictly coin op titles only.
Another idea would be in the presentation. If the creators were presenting a 3d arcade, it should look like an arcade. Have the simulated machines positioned where you have to move to each machine through animation or at least point and click. Include an arcade basketball or other old school carnival games. Add a couple of pinball games. Limiting this presentation to 15 or 20 games might ensure such a presentation without having a huge gigabyte sized game.
A bonus would have been adding a arcade game title that used a motion cabinet, like a driving, flying game i.e Afterburner and simulate such motions while playing the game.Anyway, these ideas aren't new. They have existed in other game titles on other systems throughout the years. They just would've made the Oculus app better I think. Maybe someone will present a new app one day which would improve on such ideas.
