Augmented Reality for Work Productivity
Hello! I'm a content creator and artist that works from home. One of the things that convinced me to buy an Oculus Rift S was the ability to open up multiple windows from my desktop in VR and place them wherever I want. This is supremely useful, but unfortunately I am limited with what I can do with these, as I am blind to my actual workspace while wearing the headset.
One thing I believe would drastically improve this device is the option to use the cameras to see one's surroundings, just like one would do when setting up the device for use - but then being able to stay in that mode and use functions like virtual desktop. My desire, specifically, is to be able to see my desk, drawing tablet, drinks etc. and ALSO have multiple windows open in 3D space. If you need a pitch, try this: Why buy additional computer monitors when you can just put on your Oculus VR device and make them appear wherever you need them?
I think this is generally marketed as a device for entertainment purposes, but I believe there is a lot of room for broadening the use of this device towards helping people like myself be able to optimize our work experience. A focus on AR applications like the kind I described, instead of entirely on VR could be an avenue that sees a lot of use. I know I would use the Oculus Rift S every day if this were a feature. The best part is, I doubt it would be very expensive to implement, since all the hardware exists for it and these features are already present in the various software, just scattered among different applications (setup using cameras, home using virtual desktop, etc).
