Don't require Facebook for social features
Your recent demand that all social users engage through Facebook is a bad decidion. I will not allow my children to be exposed thru Facebook so you can make a few pennies in marketing kickbacks. We will never participate in an Oculus social media again and I will actively campaign online against you from this point on.

Absolutely fuming! My son saved for his oculus quest and only found out last night about having to link to FB to accept friends! He doesn’t have FB and I begging to link to mine! What do I do? So ANGRY about this! How dare you sell something without making this general knowledge to the public! SCAMMERS! FURIOUS!

What the heck!? How are kids supposed to add friends now? This is my account but they play exclusively I don't want a ton of kids as FB friends. This is purely the dumbest Idea ever. This is the end of Occulus for our household.

Can you imagine entering a large grocery store, filling a cart full of products, walking up to the counter and fully expecting to pay for your purchase like you have a zillion times only to be told hey, you need to sign up for a membership with us to buy these products... If you don't, feel free to walk around the store but you cant purchase anything.
This is what happened to us Oculus Users. Oculus Team Listen: Your department did not THINK. Your **** for collecting metrics will be your demise. Speaking of metrics surely you know new generations don't like Facebook - and this is one reason why. You're hiding information collection with "engaging social features" that genuinely suck and are not needed. I'm sorry, but I have discord or skype for communication. If I'm going to join a friend's game he's going to invite me from INSIDE the game.
You need to remember this Pillar: VR is for experiences we cannot have in the real world. You made your avatars resemble real people. I liked having a galaxy of stars as my skin. You took that away to increase social connectivity? Adding Facebook as a mandate for communication makes my eyes roll the same way they did when I found out years ago Oculus was bought by Facebook. Let Oculus be Oculus FB. Dont intrude. Have manners and LISTEN TO THIS FORUM! Contact me directly if you want someone who can do things right. Thanks, Jarred -VR Gamer & Developer

The requirement of a facebook account to simply be allowed to have a friend list on Oculus Rift is the push I needed to save for a Valve Index instead of spending any money on the Oculus store.
Congratulations Zuck & team, you're successfully marketing competitors hardware and software.

This was a BS move. Shame on Facebook/Oculus for taking features AWAY from users without facebook.

The additional Facebook integration is what drove me away from the Oculus platform and to the Valve Index. I love what the Quest is doing, but won't seriously consider it until Facebook becomes optional.

BEING FORCED TO HAVE FACEBOOK SIMPLY TO HAVE FRIENDS ON A DEVICE THAT i PAID $800 SOUNDS LIKE A VIOLATION OF FAIR TRADE LAWS.
I WASN'T REQUIRED TO HAVE A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT WHEN I PAID THEM $800, AND NOW THEY SAY I REQUIRE IT OR I LOSE ALL MY ABILITY TO HAVE FRIENDS. THAT IS CALLED BAIT AND SWITCH!

I don't use any social features now as I don't want to have a Facebook account. Mainly just because my parents and family are on there.

I agree with having the feature be optional. I've been spending the last few years avoiding social media of any kind and would appreciate gaming to be separated from the Facebook ecosystem if we so choose

And for the oculus quest too. And leave world domination after we get on mainstream Facebook trust me on that!

Currently not able to use social features. I will not link a Facebook account to my gaming accounts or other social media accounts under any circumstance. Dear Zuckerberg, we know that a product like Facebook is only free when WE are the product. But we pay good money for Oculus hardware and games. Leave us alone.

Same, such a nightmare. I had to reactivate FB that I deactivated for 2 years and planned to delete.
Please just make it optional! -

I’m in agreement, I don’t want to be forced to connect through Facebook just to use social features, especially for ones which it wasn’t required for before, it just feels dishonest and like you are taking advantage of us

Yes a very bad decision. I would not like to mix the two. A lot a people are just not into vr. I would keep these two universes parallel.

I already plan to move to another platform just because of this. I have stopped buying from the Oculus store in preparation of that move.
