Experimental 90Hz (or higher) mode for Rift S and Quest
As we know, display panels of Rift S and Quest are capable of running at 90Hz, but locked away due to heat or certification issues. Please provide an experimental option for advanced users to "overclock" their device and use it at higher refresh rates.
We understand that Oculus wants to provide a smooth experience for general customers but please also allow room for enthusiast users to tinker with their devices.

***PLEASE READ*** So. You came out with the oculus quest 2 which has a 90hz refresh rate with a resolution of 1,832 × 1,920. It is wireless. Then you come out with the rift s which is 80hz. It has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. It is tethered to a pc. Sure you wanted to make it so that the pc requirements are the same as the original rift. But you took off 10hz. As a customer I would be willing to upgrade my pc to get higher quality vr. The rift s is supposed to be an upgrade of the original rift. You have to understand that if you want better vr quality then you need a better pc. The valve index is a perfect example of that. It has a resolution of 1440 x 1600 which is ok. it has a refresh rate of 120hz. Therefore you get a great overall vr experience for the sacrifice of higher pricing and higher pc spec requirements. Oh yeah not to mention that your paying an extra 100 dollars over the quest 2 for worse refresh rate and a halo strap. WHAT!?!? See it just doesn't make sense. So please please please don't end the rift series and also please give the rift s a 90hz option. Thank you very much.

you should get this right. The Quest is the mobile future but us PC folks like performance. just unlock the spec and most people will be fine with it and you might sell more. In fact it was one of the sticking point for me to buy the device.

Rift S didn’t get any new features over the year while Quest is getting a ton of it, so why not give us atleast 90Hz?

I’m a top 300 global on scoresaber and I have both CV1 and Rift S.
I can see very fast notes coming toward me slowly with CV1, whereas this is not the case with Rift S.
Like, my eyes can track the fast note movement better because of the higher refresh rate. This is a game changer for players like me that always see in a very fast motion.
Please consider this, Oculus.

Mine is unusable due to motion sickness, I hear w/ the Valve Index people do not get motion sick because 120 Hz.

This would be so awesome. I hope Oculus will make it happen, at least for the Rift S

I agree a 90hz option is needed very badly. I have a rift and the index that runs at 120hz all day every day. There's a huge difference between 120 and 90 as it is. I needed something more portable so I bought the rift s for the insight tracking but the 80hz ruins it usability for anything that requires quick reflexes.. it kills it. The only reason I haven't returned it is because I'm hopeful someone will make it right. I love the headset, comfortable, good display, it's light and portable but at 80hz I can't even recommend it to a friend. I feel like I would be doing them a disservice by recommended something they will quickly realized needs to be faster. Come on Oculus the Rift s needs to be a replacement for the rift not a downgrade. People that need an entry-level should get the quest. I have one of those as well as it does what it's supposed to do very well.

Has anyone tried using CRU to overclock the display to see how far it goes?

This would be amazing! Main thing that's held me back from getting this headset (Rift S) as the Index isn't available in Australia and doesn't look like it will be for a long, long time yet.
Would buy in a heartbeat if the put in 90hz+ refresh rate modes for the Rift S!

Really don’t understand why this isn’t already an option for Rift S at least, Rift ran on 90HZ? Why is Oculus trying to upset their customers...

We know that they lowered the refresh rate to 80hz because they wanted to have the same system requirements on Rift S as on CV1, but why wouldn't they enable 90hz for people that have system good enough to run it? I don't know.

I have noticed that smooth locomotion makes me ill with the Rift S, while I have absolutely no issues with CV1. The most likely culprit is the refresh rate. Please give the option.
