Fix Rift S Microphone intermittent quality dropping (Robot / Metallic voice)
I'd like to request you guys to fix the intermittent microphone quality dropping that a lot of users are facing on the Rift S. Here's a link to show you how the issue shows up:
As you can listen the quality drop occurs just for a few seconds, but it's random and intermittent getting people annoyed in social games like Pavlov VR, VRChat and RecRoom. Hope you guys can fix it somehow. I have opened a support ticket already but they couldn't help me to fix the problem. Thanks.
Oculus support asked to send it back. But meanwhile, I maybe found something useful. I tried two main things. The first thing, is I have two computer, One laptop and one main computer, the issue appears on both. The only thing in common, was my microsoft account with shareable setting wich I deactivate.
I also create a local windows 10 account on the laptop. Didn't fix the sound problem on it, but I did play for at least 1h without a crash.
I managed to make my Rift S work while plug on my PCI-E 3.0 usb card like this one : https://www.amazon.fr/Inateck-Contr%C3%B4leur-Express-15pinY-Cable-compatible/dp/B00B6ZCNGM
, (never worked before for some reason). No crash and no robotic voice for two days now.

it started weeks after getting it
Hello, I think something will break in the VR glasses after a while. Sad!
Thanks Manuel, at least Oculus did a good gesture =) you'll tell me when it's done and hopefully fixed, good luck :D
Best regards from France ;)

well that's difficult to say because i live on argentina and well because of this world crisis i dont know when im going to send it. Atleast oculus understanded my situation and now they are going to *extend* my warranty a little bit more
i'll tell you when this hole process is over
regards from argentina

@Eddie Von meyer, Same problem here my rift was working okay for atleast 6 months with this mic issue when one day out of nowhere i started having this blackscreens every 10 minutes or maybe 5 oculus just tol me its a headset issue and i have to send them mine in order to fix it
Do your Rift S also crash after 10 or 20mn of play ? I started to have this mic problem after 5 month of good service and now, I have this problem with a far worse problem, the crashes.
I kinda fixed the problem with something I did read here, deactivate the Rift S sound in the pannel. My voice was clear again, but I did crash as usual, exactly like this guy : https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/fcjzu3/rift_s_keeps_having_these_odd_crashes/
The voice, it's annoying but well, I could have keep playing, but those endless crashes are a major issue for me...
It started happening to me aswell...

The only thing I would try is replacing the actual cable from the PC to the headset, I know I've stepped on mine a few times and it COULD be the culprit, but I really would rather not spend the money to purchase one and pay for shipping just to troubleshoot if it is.
Shame on you Oculus, I will never buy another Oculus product ever, including anything off of your store.

Unfortunate that this hasn't been fixed yet. It would have been great to socialize with others during these trying times, but my mic just keeps failing every 10 minutes. Shame. >:(

I also have this problem for months now... Not sure what is going on with Oculus for the past few months since after update v12, everything seems to be slow and malfuctiong in terms of performance and bugs like this.
Literally happens every time I try to talk. It really kills the vibe as the main VR games I play are multiplayer. My friend has the same problem and I've met multiple people online with Rift S with it too.

I get the robot voice like every 5 minutes. Cerberus' tip did not help me. Disconnected and reconnected cables to the pc and the headset multiple times. Also switched to multiple other USB ports. Bug persists after new windows installation.

so i just found this easy fix for this issue, so what you have to do is take out the face cover and after that you have to disconnect the cable directly from the headset, after that make your cable straight without any kind of knot, so now all you have to do is tangle the cable on purpose BUT just al little bit so you can have like a loop in your cable then JUST CONNECT THE CABLE because you need to try if it works okay if you move your headset all around and dont see this issue apearing then put the face mask on and enjoy, if that problem persist just repeat all the steps till it works i hope this can help you guys!
PS: i had this problem for like 2 months and i was tired of it
Let me know if that worked for u!

I found out that my mic doesn't work too. Only robotic noise. I also have a Ryzen, 1700x.
I have the feeling this is not the only ryzen related issue. I had problems from the start with my Rift S and RTX2070 and Win10. I know, it is new hardware and it could take a while to polish, but I had weeks where I simply couldn't use my Rift. I had a loooot of bluescreens...
And now that I thought everything might be cool now, no total crashes anymore, the mic issue appeared.
