The controllers should come with internal batteries built in that you can plug in to recharge, saves me money on batteries, lowers the risk of destroying controller due to battery leaks, and saves environment from throwing batteries out every week

The PlayStation Move controllers are rechargeable, and whilst using them in beatsaber, never had any issues, one of my move controllers is about 8 years old and the battery is still fine.
and we all seem to think that having a replaceable rechargeable battery is a bad thing? look at the old nokias that was recharable and user replaceable. look at most Laptops..... the list goes on, the worst examples of waste are here using a AA battery of any kind, and the XBOX controllers that are still battery powered! its 2020 people we are supposed to be thinking about our environment!

The reason why we need PS4 controller style batteries inside controllers has more to do with battery moving inside the casing and causing controller to disconnect, rather than rechargeability itself(as you guys mentioned, you can get rechargeable AA batteries for that). But battery disconnecting throughout the intense gameplay is really really annoying. VR form factor invites player to take wild swings and not limit themselves in intensity of motion, that's why it doesn't really makes much sense overlooking such a glaring issue.

Why do you need rechargeable controllers when you can simply use rechargeable batteries? In a way, rechargeable batteries are even better than rechargeable controllers because when one set of rechargeable batteries runs out of power, you can swap in a fresh pair of rechargeable batteries while the other pair recharges. That way, you don't have to stop playing to wait for controllers to recharge, or buy extra expensive proprietary battery packs for your controllers.

I really think that if you want to use rechargeable batteries, you get AA rechargeables and use those.
If they were installed in the unit.. and they stopped charging, which they all do after a time, we would be throwing away the whole controller.. or sending it in for a new 'internal' battery.
I'm glad that they chose to use regular batteries.
