HDMI for Rift S
Oculus needs to be up front about requiring a video port on your computer. Really frustrated after buying the Rift S only to find out, during setup, that it does not use HDMI. My PC checked out with all of the software specs and there was no mention of a videoport requirement. AND there is no work-around whatsoever. So I have to return it. Most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen in the gaming industry.
You are wrong. It is described that it requires a display port. In the description of the site. Learn to read. And what is the one who will buy this helmet to use on an old computer. For a long time, most video cards have such a port. There are also a bunch of places where people show their helmet even before it goes on the market and the need for a display port is mentioned.
DisplayPortTM 1.2 / Mini DisplayPort (with adapter included in the box)
HDMI isn't able to get the speeds and quality required for a headset like the Rift S. It's just not physically possible without massive lag or terrible quality.
Make a working female display port to male HDMI adapter for gaming computers that only have HDMI.
hdmi or usb c compatibility. I love to spend my money, wanted a rift s, had to change my mind. my laptop does not have a display port, yet everything else is well above specs. nonsense.
I doubt I'm the only one to mention the compatibility issues of using the oculus rift s over hdmi. Since according to your documentation, there isn't an adapter with the right specs for displayport to hdmi, then couldn't you guys create a version of the cable that uses hdmi instead of diplayport. Considering I even tried a displayport to hdmi cable and the original oculus used hdmi, there should be compatible wiring and at least on paper, this should be possible. I'd rather buy a new cable for like 10-20 bucks than spend another grand at least on another computer even though my laptop fulfills the tech requirements outside of having a specific port type.
I agree, there are no indications of the need for a display port unless you've already known about the problem and started searching the internet for solutions. There should be HDMI support or they need to update the system requirements and the tests to show that this is required instead of having people go out and buy Rift S units and then return them because the company refuses to fix something they overlooked.
