Add a quick way to mute the microphone
Please add a quick way to mute the microphone. I live in a noisy house and I don't want to bother anyone in a multiplayer game when my kid starts crying, my dog starts barking, my wife has to ask me something or I have to answer the phone.
The noise might be annoying to other people in a multiplayer game and sometimes I'd like to keep an real-world conversation private.
My preferred way for this to work would be to hold down the "Dash" (Universal Menu) button on the right controller for 2 seconds to mute/unmute the microphone.
Double-pressing that button could also work.
If neither of this works, at least add a "Mute button" to the Dash.

Thanks for submitting this feature request! In the November 2018 Rift software update, our team added a new Dash rollover menu. Hover your pointer on the right side of the belt for instant access to mic volume (allowing you to mute), audio volume, Touch status, and to re-center your view. We hope this helps improve your Rift experience!

The wristwatch already has the mute functionality, but it is tiny and placed very poorly. Please instead of the "notifications bell" I want to have a microphone mute toggle right on the watch face. I don't ever want to look at notifications, but I want to constantly mute/unmute me. It could be so eas!
Most of the work for that is already done, please just add this aswell. -

I think a quick mute of the mic should be reachable in the menu dashboard.
But Push to Talk would be invaluable.
I'm using a SteamVR pluggin called "Advanced features" which allows pushtotalk to be mapped to any motion controller button - so it is up to the player to map to a key he may be be using often.
For games like Onward, I use my left Trigger, Y or X button as these are not used often in-game.
With loud family, pets, or background noise I can play a competitive game and not worry about background noise giving away my position.
Push2Talk please!!

I would also love an easy mute. Ideas: Hold down the menu button for 2 seconds. Press menu + Oculus buttons simultaneously. Or just put mute in the dashboard in the same place as the volume control.

Hm... Some combinations like Menu+L/R grip/trigger or even Home + X/Y (Menu + A/B) could be used as as global hotkeys. Especially if Rift menu will be opened with a long press.
So it would be like: Home (hold 1.5s and release) = Rift menu, Home + X = Mute mic, Home + Y = Mute headphones, Mute + L-Stick (up/down or rotation) = change volume, etc. Like Win+(..) combinations but for Rift.
Plus, there could be in-game semi-pause while holding Home button with hotkeys hints on "screen". How's that?

I would also like a way to quickly mute the headphones for the same reasons loud people in the lobbies of games. something like a left grip and a button press on the other hand would be unique enough not to trigger by accident.

There is a steamvr addon called advanced settings that allows you to set up push to talk in steam games. Its limited to common controls between rift and vive controllers but it works. I have it set up to only talk if I have the left grip held. This way people can't hear me in Stand Out sneaking up on them if I cough.

NEED a push to talk or some kind of toggle. I have a rather loud parrot in the house and i can't imagine people would appreciate it down a mic constantly.

This!!!
It would be even better to have Push-to-Talk functionality (with button mapping available), but as the number of buttons is limited, a mute/unmute would be fine!
It would be fantastic to also have the option for the defaults, so it would be possible to define the default state of the Mic (muted or open) and have a separate sound notification to distinguish mute from unmute.
