Oculus Rift S and Rift

Welcome to the Oculus Rift S and Rift feedback forum! This is the location to provide all your feature requests and ideas for the Oculus Rift platform. We're looking forward to hearing from you on the following areas of the product:

  • Dash: Oculus Dash is the in-VR command center the pops up when you hit the Oculus button on your Touch controller. Dash allows you to access PC Desktop apps, your VR Library, and other system settings and services from anywhere in VR.
  • Desktop App: This is the out-of-VR Oculus application on your PC that allows you to do things like browse the store, manage your settings, and view your friends list, among other things.
  • General: Use this category for any feedback that doesn’t fit neatly into one of the other more specific categories.
  • Home: This is your customizable in-VR home where you can show off your unique style and decorations.
  • Store: The place where all VR app purchasing takes place. The Store category covers both the out-of-VR and in-VR stores.
Please do your best to ensure all ideas are original and have not been previously submitted. Thanks for helping us improve Oculus Rift S and Rift!
  1. Add linux support

The only reason i don't use oculus rift more is because of Windows, Windows is not my main OS and so i have it turned off every time.

Please add support for linux. Or at least help openhmd project

  2. Allow naming of sensor devices.

I would like to name my sensors so that when an issue is reported I don't have to play the randomly unplug sensors game to find out which one is having an issue.

  3. Add a setting so that the microphone automatically mutes itself when the headset is taken off.

I like playing social games, but I live in a household where I might, at any time, have to immediately take my HMD off and talk to family members, without the time to go into the menu and disable my microphone.

So, is there a setting somewhere that my open mic is disabled when I take off the headset? I can't think of any reason why I would want it left on open mic after I take my HMD off in the headset, so a setting like that would be excellent.

  4. Allow multiple user log in

Allow multiple user log in on same computer while sharing the game library in order to be able to share/demo with family and friends.

Similar system as Xbox where all users can play games installed.

  5. Add an option to rollback the Oculus software as a last resort.

A recent update for the Oculus software has left my device effectively bricked due to AMD not releasing Windows 8.1 drivers that are new enough for the Oculus app to consider updated. I'm presently being told by Oculus support that my only option is to buy Windows 10 or a new graphics card, and that Oculus doesn't have the ability or intention to make my headset functional again. There should be an option to roll back software as a last resort in these kinds of cases that can allow Rift owners to use their device as they did before an…

  6. Allow for a second set of Touch controllers.

Update to allow for 4 tracked controllers. I really feel like this would be a big deal.

  7. Calibrate floor height by putting Touch controller on the floor

I think the current way of calibrating the floor level is a remnant of the pre-Touch days, and I still frequently see discussions about the floor level being wrong. I mean, even if I know how tall I am, all it takes for it to be off is for me to be slouching somewhat during the calibration.

I believe putting a Touch controller front-first on the floor during the calibration would be a better approach, as the distance between the floor and the IR rings on the controllers can be accurately measured and will be the same every time for…

  8. Allow us to disable the "your computer doesn't meet Rift's minimum specifications" notification.

As per the title. This nag screen actually uses UI space in the new dash UI sometimes covering objects.

I have a 2600K, a GTX 1080 and 16GB RAM yet I still get this message. Please allow us to disable it as it serves no function after the first time you see it.

  9. Add a tool to edit guardian boundary.

Even though you can draw guardian boundary really slowly to make it look better, it still isn't perfect. Having a tool to make adjustmens to it would be really great, our boundaries would look a lot cleaner.
Yes, we do have an app called Guardian Boundary Editor, but it doesn't work for everyone, especially for Rift S users. Native support for this would be appreciated.

  11. Allow more flexibility for sensor placement during setup

The oculus setup issues warnings when you place your sensors in something other than what's suggested in the setup process. Tracking problems can arise and cause issues when people don't realize that these warnings can be ignored and sensors can be placed in more ideal locations like up high and in the corners of their rooms.

I've seen many people run into these issues especially when configuring for roomscale tracking. It would be nice if the setup offered more than one suggestion or made it clearer that the suggested sensor placement isn't necessary. Here's just one example of a user…

  12. Allow custom install location of oculus home data.

Every time an oculus update comes out I have to clean up room on my SSD to be able to install. What sucks is that the oculus program itself is taking up the most room on my drive, with the home data package being overwhelmingly the largest chunk of data (and it keeps getting larger with each update).
It would be great to install the home data (and tutorials) to a custom location, as is done with the games, it would make updates much less of a headache.

  13. Forced to watch safety video every time app is opened without internet access

It didn't work properly since 1.17 and still hasn't been fixed in 2.0 beta.

Every time you attempt open the application, you are forced to sit through the safety video, and the setting to turn it off never sticks.
Same with allowing 3rd party apps.

  14. Master control list and button mapping.

I would really like a master list of the controls and a button map. I am not always sure if I'm missing a feature or doing something wrong because not all functions are obvious.

How do I use right-mouse button with left-right agnostic touch controls?
Is there a way to click middle mouse button on touch?
Are there gestures or combinations of buttons to keyboard/mouse functions?

Separately, I really want a way to remap buttons on my touch controls to make the most of the buttons available.

  15. Option to disable/enable input devices like the xbox controller from the devices menu

Option to disable/enable input devices like the xbox controller from the devices menu

When you launch a non-vr game on a pc the Oculus still accepts input from the xbox controller that you want to use on a desktop app.

Add the option to disable the xbox controller inside the oculus app.

  16. Option to downgrade games

Many times when a game updates, it can break a lot of things. On some platforms, we have the option to downgrade to previous versions. On Oculus Home, we are unable to.
For Example, Beat Saber's Multiplayer Mod was broken in V 13.0, but works in V12.2. On Steam, we could simply revert via the properties page, but on Oculus Home, we're stuck with the version that doesn't work.

  17. Allow us to reset sensors from in-app

Every so often I’ll get an error that says the tracking quality is poor on a sensor, or that the ms response time was too low/high. Would it be possible to get a button that allows us to effectively do the software equivalent of unplugging and plugging in that sensor?

  18. Only Download Updates when App is Open

I don't like that the Oculus software will download updates in the background any time it wants, even when the app isn't open. The developers seem to assume that no one does anything with their PCs other than play Oculus games. But I could be playing a non-VR or non-Oculus game when it starts a download, or I might need my full internet bandwidth for something else. Stopping the service is an effective workaround but this is tedious and requires unofficial addons like Oculus Tray Tool or batch files.

Steam already works the way I want - it does nothing…

  19. Remove 'Controller' icon from devices when Touch is set up and no gamepad is connected

A gamepad hasn't been included with the Rift for many months now, so it shouldn't be considered an essential component anymore.

When you have Touch installed, but a gamepad off, the Gamepad is still listed in devices, annoyingly. Just as 'Off' though.

This behaviour doesn't exist for the Remote.

It's annoying because with 3 sensors it means that the Gamepad spills onto a new line.

(Just a minor visual thing, but still annoying)

  20. Close Oculus App to Windows Tray

We have 2.5 years anniversary of Oculus Rift CV1 release, and yet even after such a long time, desktop app is still missing a crucial feature to be able to minimize Oculus app to a system tray. It's extremely embarrassing given that Oculus Rift is a professional commercial product.

This feature is absolutely essential, especially since Oculus App is required to be running at all times as long as Rift headset is used. As a Rift game developer, it is very important to me to have app running, but at the same time I can't stand having clutter on my…
