Oculus Rift S and Rift

Thanks for helping us improve Oculus Rift! We're now taking all suggestions on our Oculus Community Forums. All suggestions, votes, and comments from here have been migrated, along with matching accounts. We appreciate you taking the time to share, and are looking forward to seeing you on our broader community.

As a reminder, topics are labeled in the following areas:
  • Companion App: This category is for feedback relating to the Oculus mobile app, specifically for how the mobile app interacts with the Oculus Go platform.
  • Core Software: All Oculus Go main menu, navigation, and settings feedback should be left under this category.
  • First Party Apps: This category is for in-VR apps created by Oculus, like Venues and Rooms.
  • General: Use this category for any feedback that doesn’t fit neatly into one of the other more specific categories.
  • Store: The place where all VR app purchasing takes place.

  1. Add option to disable headset pointer when using Xbox Controller when playing non-VR games through Virutal Desktop

When I try to play a game that uses the Xbox controller when I'm using Dash's Virtual Desktop to create a virtual monitor, it automatically assumes I want to use my headset as a pointer and cancels out my directional input from the controller.

I don't see an option to disable this and only use the input from the Xbox controller anywhere. I just want to use my Rift S as a display, not as an input device.

  2. Extend screentshots to support 360 capture

You have support for screen capture in the dash, but can we please extend that to produce a 360 image. Then allow us to import them as backgrounds in home. I also have a vested interest, that I would like people to be able to use them in my Jigsaw 360 game.

  3. Pinned Dash panes inserted into the application's scene space

It would be very nice and more immersive if Dash could be placed in the scene of the application/game instead of being painted over the scene.

    Use case:
A pinned webpage showing runes for OrbusVR's Runemage (that aren't recorded in the player's journal) is pinned in Dash so the player can practice tracing the runes with the in-game wand.

Currently, all in-game objects (hands and wand included) disappear behind the pinned window regardless of its apparent placement. Inserting the pinned window into the actual scene of the game would solve this and prevent pinned windows from constantly breaking immersion.

  4. Oculus Desktop with a full screen view (not TV size)

Oculus question for New Oculus Rift S (no sensors but no HDMI only video display)
Is the Oculus Desktop in the Oculus Rift S - that was your best feature? The only limitation was Oculus Desktop is a TV view (not full screen). Do you have a full headset view of the Oculus Desktop where developers can use your head movement to scroll around a 3D world - this option in either the Rift or Rift S would permit quick transitions for developers to put their existing 3D worlds in your headset?

The only other limitation of your system -…

  5. Smart Watch!

Your phone rings when you're in VR. Your watch hand begins to vibrate, you hold up your hand to see the watch is illuminated and blinking. The watch projects a holographic display showing a picture of the caller along with the phone ui buttons. Voice is directed through the rift.

This is made possible by the use of a mobile companion app connected to your PC. It is able to mirror your phone audio and video. Using the smart watch you have access to all of your usual apps without leaving the rift.

Having the ability to view and pin…

  6. Custom auto-opening windows at launch

An option to close all dash windows at once? Or at least make it so that there aren't 3 windows opened by default. Its annoying to close them one by one every time I use the desktop

  7. Answer Facebook IM calls from the dash board.

I'd like to be able to answer calls I receive in the FB messenger while in VR. Like just a simple button to click and answer with voice only while I'm in a game or in oculus home would be awesome. Thanks!

  8. Open Developer API for Dash

If there was an open api that developers could use, we could easily add our own items/overlays to dash.
Things like a stream chat overlay, custom windows notification popups, or maybe something like a web browser designed specifically for dash would be possible through this.
There could be a new menu in dash designed specifically for loading and unloading said "plugins".

  9. Push to Talk Universal Option

I would like an option for push to talk that mutes unmutes my mic. The touch controllers have capacitive buttons and these would work perfectly for ptt (any would work) you rest thumb on the spot(not pressing) and it turns on mic.

The thumb rest capacitive spot would be perfect to activate it or one of the menue buttons.

  10. Show wrist-watch even when Dashboard isn't up

The wrist-watch is a cool way to see the time, but it currently only shows up when the Dashboard is up, and Dashboard already shows the time. It would be a lot more useful to be able to be able to see the time even when the Dashboard isn't up.

  11. Allow some way to adjust volume while in-game

Allow some way to adjust volume while in-game - perhaps pressing both joystick buttons brings up a volume slider, or something like that.

  12. Pairing your phone with rift

Vive users have in-game notifications since longtime : "Don't worry about missing important notifications. While you're in any VR app, you'll see a notification when you have an incoming call, message, or upcoming calendar event."

Why the **** rift users are so ignored by Oculus ?

This is THE suggestion : https://www.vive.com/eu/support/vive/category_howto/pairing-your-phone-with-vive.html

    Please listen to us.

    Thank you

  13. Allow us to pick the colourful avatar skins from the old Home.

The new avatar system obviously still supports the old avatar materials, we should be able to pick them.

I miss my old avatar :(

  14. Give us a settings option to switch between the current restricted window system and the old one.

Previously windows in dash allowed you to freely move them to your hearts content. While I understand why this new option exists for things like automatic leveling and centering, we should have the option to disable this "help" system for the old free movement.

Before this update I was watching netflix/amazon prime etc exclusively through dash without having to load other apps like bigscreen and saving resources. Now that this new system has your windows basically fight you to make it as difficult as possible to position them how you want, I've pretty much abandoned them all together again. Updates…

  15. Integrate rift.uservoice to Dash

I only just recently found out about this website when support recommended it to me. Turns out most of the ideas I had have already been suggested, but I still wish I would have known about it sooner.

I'd love to have an app in Dash that would display the most recent suggestions and show you any new comments left on an idea you made/liked. Even just making it a link that opened in browser would be better than not having anything.

Maybe more people would provide feedback if the ability to do so was part of the experience.

  16. Major problem with multiple screen users

Hi. Ever since the Dash 2.0 has been launched, even in beta, users with multiple screen setup have been experiencing problems.
The dash appears without the desktop icon and it's impossible to get out of the oculus home unless the rift is unplugged. This happens because the monitor goes black when oculus client is launched. The fact the the other monitors are disabled doesn't make a difference. Unplugging the extra monitors from the GPU did work for a while but now I'm having a dash without the desktop icon even with only one monitor plugged in. That means that I…

  17. Do not blacken the environment when using Dash

Often I would surf the web via the dash monitor in Oculus Home while watching a movie on the oculus home TV. With the dash system, it was very easy to multitask and stay in VR. Now, if using the dash monitor, everything becomes dark. If playing a game, you could quickly do something on the desktop while keeping a clear eye on the game. Now that the environment becomes dark, I find myself reverting back to just removing the hmd and using the actual monitor.

  18. Allow customization of how much the Dash darkens the game

A recent change makes the game world darken a bit when you open the dash. Personally, I don't like this change, I play a lot of VRChat and other social apps and like to use my dash while chatting. I'll still be looking around and talking with people while the dash is open, so I want the game world to stay the same. I know others might like this change though. It would be nice if there was some control over how much the game was darkened, including an option to turn it off. Maybe a slider of some sort?…

  19. Better integrated voice regognition

In the windows 98 days we had great voice recognition for VR gameplay via Microsoft Sidewinder Game Voice. There were a lot of keyboard commands in most games of that era before Windows became more controller friendly. A good game voice profile really makes those games as real as it gets. A few strategy games, I was able to play with voice control alone without any other input. There were more things to be done on those games because the number of required input events, were not limited to the buttons on an X-box or 2 touch controllers. I still…

  20. Option to disable/limit CPU hungry Dash features for users with low spec machines

A number of users with under performing computers are having issues with Dash 2.0 taking away performance from VR games.

If the CPU/GPU hungry features had an option to disable or limit Dash 2.0 impact it might help.
